Ferrari claims Red Bull not in 2023 ‘comfort zone’ after Lando Norris’ Miami GP victory
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Red Bull has started the 2024 season in an unexpected form. Milton Keynes was believed to follow in the footsteps of their highly dominant 2023 campaign. However, the team has already lost out on two of the first six races. Hence, rival teams have started challenging the Austrian team’s dominance. Upon this, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur claimed that the team is no more in their previous year’s performance’s comfort zone.

Max Verstappen has still won four out of the six races and is on a similar trajectory to the previous season. However, Red Bull had lost out on only one race in 2023. Fred Vasseur didn’t hesitate to highlight that Milton Keynes was ‘probably’ still ahead of the rival teams. If the Safety car hadn’t deployed at the Miami GP, the story could’ve been different. Additionally, Verstappen’s pole position showcased his advantage over Lando Norris.

Honestly, Red Bull is still ahead. Probably Max could have won today without the story of the safety car. They did the pole position, which means they have still a small advantage. Fred Vasseur said, as reported by motorsport.com.

Moreover, the current situation indicated that Ferrari was getting the setup and the in-season development correct against Red Bull. Maranello has been putting the Austrian constructor under pressure constantly. Hence, Vasseur reckoned that Milton Keynes needed to be aggressive with their strategy. Additionally, the 55-year-old highlighted that Red Bull no longer enjoyed the ‘comfort zone’ of their 2023’s dominance.

What is true is that compared to one year ago, when we are able to do a good job and to put everything together, we are there. It means we are putting them a little bit under pressure, they have to be a bit more aggressive with the strategy. They are not anymore in the comfort zone of last year where it doesn't matter what happens and after lap two they were in front. Fred Vasseur noted.

Fred Vasseur claims Ferrari in a place to ‘fight with Red Bull’ every single weekend

McLaren and Ferrari have great chances of a late-season battle against Red Bull. Milton Keynes would need to keep up with in-season upgrades to extend the gap to the rival teams. However, Fred Vasseur believes that the updates are a ‘game changer’ for race management.

I think it's a game-changer in the management of the race. Fred Vasseur added.

Hence, Vasseur reckoned that it was a great opportunity for Ferrari to close the window on Red Bull’s dominant start. With small steps in terms of upgrades, the Italian constructor is looking more hopeful of better results. Due to such upgrades, the team principal believes that Ferrari can compete with Red Bull every single weekend down the season.

This is an opportunity for us because if we are doing another small step, that we will be really in a position to fight with them every single weekend. Fred Vasseur concluded.

Ferrari has already scored one race win out of the six races so far. Hence, the Italian constructor will aim to win more races down the season. Red Bull’s dominance might soon be matched by the rival teams, especially McLaren and Maranello. Hence, the 2024 season as well as the coming season might be highly exciting for the fans.
